The Times

The Times Extends Its Online Presence To Mobile

times-iconTimes Mobile, launched in February 2008, is the mobile site of both The Times and The Sunday Times, two of the world’s best-known newspapers. It has a target audience of news consumers, sports fans, business people, and entertainment fans. Designed specifically for mobile, the site gives users a summary of the current top stories and then the option to browse and read detail.

In December 2008 the site was relaunched using Fabric. The new site keeps quick and easy access to the latest news and adds better navigation, clearer delivery and useful tools – site and web search, shares search, markets data, a markets ticker, a personalised weather service, a feedback facility, font size adjuster and, most recently, the ability to customise the homepage.

Fabric gives the times editorial team the agility and the ability to create and place content and promotions as well as control ad serving.

Since launch, the site’s traffic continues to grow month on month and the sharp increase in page views appears to demonstrate an increased ‘stickiness’ on the Fabric powered site.

In recent research into usability on smartphones of standard and mobile newspaper sites, Times Mobile was the best performing site, scoring highly for the ease and speed of finding information.
